今回は、英会話・発音に直結するリスニングのキホンについてです。

A dysfunctional family take a road trip to enter their little girl in the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant. Excellent cast, especially the little girl Olive and her grandpa, make this film rise above most films of this nature. I loved the comedy, the acting, the wild story line and the goofy antics.

A matryoshka doll is a set of dolls of decreasing sizes placed one inside another, as you know. Matroyoshkas are often designed to follow a particular theme, ranging from fairy tale characters to Soviet leaders.. They are very popular dolls at sundry goods shops now. There are many cute ones.

According to Wikipedia, The Ajisai is“ a Japanese flower of the Hydrangea family. Many Japanese enthusiasts observe its color-changing during the "Tsuyu" rainy season from June to July.” I didn’t know till now that the Japanese kind is called Ajisai, distinguished from the western one.

In the language of flowers, Hydrangea signifies strong love, family ties, and volatile emotions.

A severe earthquake wreaked havoc on Niigata Prefecture and surrounding areas. I wasn’t in the quake-hit zone, however, that earthquake was pretty strong even in Kanto and Tohoku area! Hope you all are well.

くせ毛・まとまらない髪　　unruly hair

This is the worst season of the year for people who have unruly hair! Humidity makes my unruly hair more curly and puffy. I use many hair care items, such as essential oil and moist control shampoo;, however, these are not working well. I wish Japanese summers had drier and more pleasant weather so that hair styling would be easier.

ぐつぐつ煮る　simmer

I got two boxes of strawberries, so I cooked jam using 5 packs.When I bring those strawberries to a simmer, sweet smells are spread in the room.
Then a little bit of the juice with sugar spilt out of the pot and burnt! It also makes a sweet, burnt smell, that is not so bad actually.

★Strawberries that are odd-shaped and a bit sour are suitable for making jam.

英語上達のキホン　４　ー　丁寧に音をつかむコツ

たくさん聞いてなんとなく意味をとる方法に加えて丁寧に音を確認すると、ぐんと英語の耳が上達します。

連射される英語を、ひとつずつ丁寧にとらえるのはちょっと面倒な作業ながら、英語をきちんと理解する力や、TOEICのような試験の力は飛躍的に伸びるはずです。

There is an old man, who always talks to You-ka whenever we pass by in front of his shop. But he was talking to a young girl and he didn’t even give a glance to You-ka today. Well, he seemed to prefer an adolescent girl to a baby. You-ka is a bit too young.

★Elderly people tend to talk to You-ka.People that age will remember when they were bringing up their baby, I guess.

Fresh verdures are shiny in the rain now.
They are the most beautiful when shining under the sunshine, actually.
The leaves are brushing each other and rustling. The hot summer season will begin very soon.

引き続き、英語に耳をならすための方法についてです。（丁寧に聞く方法はまた後日）

前回、映画など自分の好きなものを教材にして、日本語でもいいから内容を押さえ、その後に英語を文字と音の両方で確認。音の消失や、どんな言葉どんな風に聞こえるかをとらえていく、というお話をしました。
