A mail from Sendai, the earthquake and tsunami hit
I received a mail from a friend of mine, Carol-san, in Sendai.She went out to volunteer where the tsunami hit the hardest…
仙台のキャロルさんからメールが来ました。津波被害が大きかったところにボランティアをしてきたとのこと
“I was out to the coast of Miyagi a few days last week to volunteer where the tsunami hit the hardest. The people who are still living in the school gyms are getting short on patience.
先週の数日、宮城の海岸線の津波の被害を受けたところにボランティアに行ってきました。まだみんな学校の体育館で暮らしていて、だんだん忍耐力が落ちている様子です。
昨年の青葉城あたり。今は斜面が崩れて風景が変わってしまいましたが…。
I went to sort and distribute clothes mostly, but also had an opportunity to play (in English) with kids who were living in the schools so that their parents and grandparents could have some time to themselves.
私は、洋服の仕分けや配布が主な仕事でしたが、学校に暮らす子供たちと（英語で）遊ぶ機会がありました。そうすれば、両親や祖父母も少しは自分の時間がとれるから。
That part was fun, but I couldn’t believe the destruction caused by the tsunami. It is going to take ages to clean it all up…
それは楽しい時間でしたけど、津波による破壊は、信じがたいものでした。片付けるだけでも年月を必要としそうです……
As for lifelines, the gas is continuing to be brought back little by little to the suburbs. We are expecting it to be available to us in the next few days.
ライフラインに関しては、郊外でも少しずつガスが使えるようになってきました。うちのあたりも、あと数日で使用できるようになるかと思います。
P.S.
I heard that the cherry blossoms are going to make their debut in Sendai late next week. That will make things seem prettier at least!”
来週後半には、仙台でもいよいよ桜が開花しそうです。桜のおかげで、少しだけ街もきれいに“見える”かもしれないですね。
