流行の波に遅れた。波を逃した。　miss the wave
Finally, I ate Krispy Kreme Doughnuts! Yeah, I know I missed the wave! I didn't wat to wait for more than an hour to get some doughnuts..but finally I deiceded to be on line. When I was on the line, the shop clerk gave me a hot Original Galzed. The texture is very soft but having a body. Mmm yum! "If you haven't had an Original Glazed HOT off the line, you should try one!" Just the thing is...it's very sweet and your stomach will feel heavy after you had one...

There always is a long line in front of Nihonbashi maru, a Japanese sweet cracker shop.
The other day, the line wasn’t so long by chance so I just dropped by to buy some crackers. One of the crackers is Negi-miso, the taste of soy seasoning and Chinese onion. I enjoyed the unusual taste. Yum!

高騰する soar

The price of oil is soaring worldwide, a “crisis” that has dominated the past week’s newspaper's front pages. I didn't care that much about those reports before, but now they're a matter of our life. Now anything can move prices. (Gee, one of my favorite cake used to be 1000yen, but now it's 1200yen! This is a trivial matter though...) I hope that the government finally decides to lower gas prices. How do you think about it?

I attended the Organic Wine party( held at Au legumes, a french restaurant). Those wines, selected by Hasgawa of Mavie, have rich, complex flavor, beatiful coloar and taste great! Organic wines are earth and human body-friendly.I didn't have any unpleasant reactions after drinking those wines.The main dish was deep-fried vetables and black rice. The chef did a great job and the staff was very attentive. I enjoyed great meals with great friends.And...we had a great guest too!

My dad gathered edible wild plants,such as Thistle, Butterbur sprout and so on from mountain and mom cooked Tempura at my hometown. Dipped in batter and deep-fried, those wild plants became very crispy and rich in the taste. Beer went really well with those Tempra.

On the way to Great Grandma & Grandpa’s house in the Tohoku area, I found trees with white flowers. Those were apple trees. I was brought up in Kanto area and haven’t seen apple trees. The shape of the tree is unique as if the branches stretch up as each one likes.

I visited Hiroo Yamagata’s, a translator and writer (and also works for Nomura reserch institute), apartment for a home party. Kyudogakusha is the oldest reinforced concrete apartment building in Japan, which was built in the Taisho era as a dormitory. This renovated corporative housing has both a nostalgic atmosphere and the newest facilities. Hiroo has good taste and commitment not only to his translation and writings but also to his life style.

Ume-ban is a book combining a Japanese dictionary “Shinmeikai kokugo jiten” and a photo book. The photos were taken by Kayo Ume who has received Kimura-Ihei Awards. Ume’s pictures depict (not explain) the emotion of the word. This is one of the great fusions of words and pictures. I’ve never seen this kind of funny, unique and cute book.

I have had a cold for more than three weeks. Not only don’t I feel well yet, but also I still have a fever, a throbbing headache and feel dizzy. I keep coughing. I had a runny nose at first and now I have a stuffy nose. The very day I wrote the travel column about Tibet, Chinese state media carried a report of disturbances in Tibet. I really hopefor the improvement of the situation…Also, well, actually, what I really care about is…I have to rewrite my column!!! I had a call from the editor. These Hina Dolls are collected by old Japanese family. One of the significant dolls is “Tsurusi bina”, hanging many different dolls, such as herbal leaves to avoid insects ( the connotation of bad guys) and so on. People pray their daughter’s happiness decorating these dolls, which will take over all evil matter happen to their daughter. It’s really nice to enjoy Hina dolls in old Japanese house with the smell of Tatami mat.The number of dolls is...tremendous!

One of my favorite directors, Sofia Coppola’s newest film “Marie Antoinette” depicts the queen in a very pop and cute taste. I like how Coppola depicts Marie’s naïve girl aspects and the clothes and knick-knacks, which got academy awards. I was a bit disappointed at the last part of the film making me feel that it is “unfinished”.

A friend of mine gave me a handcrafted Goat’s Milk Soap, made from olive and other oils and 100％ fresh goat’s milk. It contains many nutrients including essential proteins, amino acids and vitamin A. I was uncertain about the effect, however, wow, it made my skin surface smooth! Above all, ” goat’s milk” sounds “delicious” and appealing to me.

These clothes are “Mamegui”, Japanese towels made of cotton, as you know. There is, however, something different from usual Nihontenugi. Yeah, Mamegui is so much smaller than usual towel and about the same size with hanky. They are very sophisticated, aren’they?

I had rose petal and verbena herbal tea on the forty fourth floor. Rose petals offer a flowery aroma and a fragrant taste. The essential oil in the rosebud can help to improve circulation. It is popular in Europe as an after dinner drink to help digestion. It’s really nice to enjoy the flower aroma with the great view of Tokyo!

This colorful petal like things are root vegetables chips; Taro, Sweet potato, Yuka, Ruby root vegetables and Batata. Many of these vegetables are savory, some are sweet and mixed together they achieve a balance of flavors…nutty, rich, delicate. It’s really unique and pretty but the taste is…I’d say I just finish it.

I cook baby food for Youka every day. I “have to”, but I also “love to” do it! Just the thing is…it takes time. Then, I just decide to play with it! Today, my theme is “wannabe Picaso.” Well, I don’t have the talent to paint, so I just put food paste on the plate like pigments. It’s artistic…isn’t it?…or maybe not.

Strolling along the river bank, I stepped on the needle ice. I haven’t seen it for a long time. Needle ice is a phenomenon that occurs when the temperature of the soil is above 0°C and the surface temperature of the soil is below 0°C. The underground moisture is brought to the surface. I love the crispy sound it makes when I step on it.

I was impressed! There is a rice paddy on the second basement level of a build　in Marunouchi area. The place was used to be the safe of Daiwa bank, now the place has turned into a rice paddy like in the picture! Wow, it’s a very ecological and charming use of the bank safe, isn’t it?

感じのいい音 agreeable sound

I had a party at the restaurant “musmus”. The restaurant serves various steamed dishes. What I care about is…the name. musumusu sounds like a foreign language but actually it’s Japanese. How cool! It’s a really easy name to remember because of the agreeable sound.
