Spring cabbage pasta

季節の味　the delicacies of the season

This is the season of tender and pleasant spring-flavored cabbage. I had a lunch meeting at an Italian restaurant, Mezzannino over the lunch specialties. The pasta went really well with garlic and a small amount of tomato paste. The pasta had an appealing flavor and was very elastic. It’s great to have delicacies of the season at the window seat.

The lunch specialty came with a huge organic salad and cappuccino. It was 1400yen.

Licorice house

陰影　shade and shadow

A huge numbers of dolls were exhibited in an old Japanese lord’s house, licorice house. Old wood and tatami mat smells spread throughout the room and faint light came through the Japanese paper sliding door, Shoji, and lit over those dolls. Very sophisticated Japanese “shade and shadow” world can be experienced there.

The oldest hina of Licorice house was created in 18th century, Tempo era.

Heated stone grilled beef

ジュージュー音をたてる　make a sizzling sound

The grilled beef made a sizzling sound on the heated stone. It kept the beef hot till I finished eating. It was just fun to look at the dish hearing the sizzle sound and that made the cuisine seem more delicious. If I can serve it like this at home, it would be really nice but it must be really hard to deal with these stones at home.

Tokyo Metoropolitan Govenment Office - As if I’m in the Blade Runner’s world.

〜に引き込まれる　be drawn into〜

I felt as if I was drawn into the Blade Runner’s world. Where do you think I am? Yeah, this is the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office. It has a very cool and concrete atmosphere and seems like a perfect place to put a Chinese character sign and make a spaceship fly about the building. It has some special near future-like atmosphere.

Mad Strawberry

直径〜センチ　centimeter in diameter

A friend of mine sent me huge strawberries. They are so much bigger than usual strawberries and are eight centimeter in diameter! What a strawberry! Are you guys going mad in this strange weather on the earth? They were very sweet and tasty anyway.

I’ve seen many of these kinds of huge berries in this season.

Chocolate Beer

二度見する　　do double take

I found some dark colored can at a supermarket. It has the name of Royce and Sapporo on it. I did a double take saying “Royce’?” It’s the chocolate company in Hokkaido. Yeah, it’s chocolate flavored beer. In a way, it tastes like light and sweet Guinness. I can’t say it’s “yummy, but I would say it’s like a Belgium beer in a way.

It’s only 235yen.

Play with snow in the sunshine

子供の頃に戻ったような　I feel like going back to being a little kid.

The day after we had the heavy snow, I went to the park with Youka and made a snowman in the sunlight. After I started to make it, I remembered that I should roll the snowball on the snow spread on the ground to make a huge one. I felt like going back to being a little kid.

It's fun to have snow once in a while.

I just dropped by a popular hideaway “Lovers Rock Café” in Shinjyuku. It is located on the third floor of a small old multiple-tenant building. Once you open the door, the music’s strong beat pulls you into the pop culture spread throughout the room. The café is a place to enjoy chatting with your friends rather than to relax.

The café is located in the area right across Isetan toward 3chome.　It’s a bit difficult to find the place. Shinjyuku 3-10-10 is the address.

奇抜な・おかしな　wacky

I tried Azuki Pepsi, a Japanese original product. It slightly has the flavor of Azuki red beans, but Azuki are not included in the ingredients. I found some comments, on YouTube, saying “the wacky Japanese…” and “some weird pairings out there” or something like that. Mmm, I agree with you guys in a way, but the taste is acceptable for me. Rising sun at the outside bath

朝の静けさ　serenity of the morning/　ふと目覚める wake up suddenly

I woke up suddenly and found the sun was just rising over the sea.
So, I decided to go into the private outside bath in my room (at the Japanese hotel.)
In the serenity of the morning, I was soothed by the hot spring. It’s great to have this kind of time once in a while.
